Life

Life is like a journey, a never-ending road. It throws you curves and forks. It seems we are always asking “should I go left or right?” In life you will meet friends, a partner on your journey, you make some, you loose some, then make some more again. But you will find that friend, that special one, that turns the same turns, that walks the same path. And though you sometimes think, even though it’s not true, “I cannot carry on this journey, I cannot carry on.” You must because your future is unwrapped in the road, it might be bad, it might be good, but if you find that partner, that oh so special one, they will help you on your journey, because you’re the one they trust. In life there are dead ends, and there is just one way out. Just forget it ever happened and turn and walk away. So just carry on your journey, and soon you will be home.

Avocado Tree

It stands, perfectly still
Moving nowhere for no one
It is tall, reaching for the blue heavens
With its long and many arms,
Entangled in the phone lines.
Its deep brown, rough skin is perfect
For a climbing child to grasp
And its thick, sturdy base is perfect
For someone to lean on.
It holds secrets in its heart
Dropping them down in its dark green offerings
To our earth, to us, to you
To start the cycle again it takes
Only a little love, light, and rain,
Drawing its life from the deep, rich soil.
Posing perfectly for eternity
This beautiful giant
Shows us how complex
Simplicity can be.

Snowflake On Your Tounge

Running, jumping, scurrying about
Just so happy to be out
In this field covered in December’s gift,
Snow has come in last night’s drift.

You throw snowballs at each other
“Come inside” calls mother,
It has started to snow, how sublime!
“Please give us a little more time!”

Now the fun begins!
Look at all the shining grins!
You all stick out your tongues
And breathe cold air in your lungs.

They flurry past without a care
Through the very cold, cold air.
But then a big and heavy flake
Slithered down like a friendly snake

Onto your tongue, waiting there
Until you breathe out the warm air.
Melted now, it turns to water
A very innocent slaughter.

The Mask

A plea for help,
A cry in the night,
No one noticed the hidden signs
Behind the mask she wore.
She faked a smile
And pretended a laugh,
With the mask.
No one knew how to get behind it,
But all she wanted was for someone to see,
To know and to help her
Through what loomed behind.
For behind the mask,
The pain revealed, the sorrow,
The anger, the fright.
The dark thoughts that loomed
Seeped into her soul,
And dissolved the happiness and joy
To crying and weeping,
Fright and anger, hidden,
Behind the mask she wore.

Big Bird

Big bird in a car
Drove across the universe
Tonight.
He landed on a cake
Shadowed on a screen
Hid under a cone hat
Sat on a stair
And took a journey
Into his hands.
And I will never forget
The cake,
The movie,
The cone hat,
The stair,
Or those hands.
